Applicable divorce regulations differ depending on the state

Michigan readers know there are many issues that accompany a divorce. Some of these issues include property division, post-divorce modifications, prenuptial agreements, spousal support, alimony, child custody, child support and visitation plans. Depending on the nature of the divorce and where the parties stand on certain issues, some or all of these issues may come into play. When dealing with a divorce, it is better for both parties to have a clear position on all possible issues instead of leaving them to chance.

British film director Rupert Sanders and his wife are getting a divorce. Liberty Ross filed for divorce amidst a cheating scandal surrounding a well-known actress and Rupert. Rupert admitted to the affair. Ross is not seeking spousal support, and, there is no mention of any type of prenuptial agreement, which if in effect, could dictate the financial outcome of the divorce. Both parties would like joint custody of their two children, however.

In Michigan as well as in other states, divorce statutes tend to regulate divorce proceedings. The courts use these statutes to conduct divorce hearings, and each state has different regulations with respect to how divorces are handled. For instance, some states require that a couple separate for a certain amount of time before they seek a divorce. For a Michigan resident who wishes to divorce, an experienced family law attorney can help them understand the rules that are applicable in their case and can ensure their divorce goes as smoothly as possible.

Because people's emotions are involved in a divorce, anything can happen and there are no guarantees. The best way to tackle this uncertainty is to prepare carefully and seek the advice of a skilled divorce lawyer who can guide their client to a favorable outcome.
