Court involvement in child support issues is sometimes necessary

No matter what one's status is in society, Michigan residents understand that divorce can bring along many challenging issues. One big ticket issue that must be resolved is child support. The resolution of child support issues can be done amicably among the parties. However, the reality of the situation is that during a divorce or a break-up of any kind, emotions run high and the likelihood that parents can come to a determination about child support without court intervention is unlikely. It is often the case that the courts will be involved when it comes to issues of child support.

Steve Nash, a well-known basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers, is going through a child support dispute with his ex-wife. Nash is not currently paying child support. The wife is alleging that the basketball star is avoiding paying child support for his two children by not allowing them to move to Los Angeles where child support payments would most likely be forced upon Nash under California law. The courts are not allowing the family to move until the child support case goes to family court in early June.

The courts look at number of factors when deciding a child support case. The family law courts adhere to a particular child support formula in coming up with the amount to be paid. A number of factors are taken into account when making this kind of determination. First and foremost, the court looks at the needs of the child by using the best interest of the child standard. This standard is common among all courts throughout the United States when dealing with child support issues. The court also looks at the medical expenses of the child, as well as everyday expenses in making payment decisions on child support.

Child support is taken seriously by the courts. If the court makes a ruling on child support payments, the ruling is controlling and must be followed. Michigan residents struggling with child support issues should not hesitate to reach out to legal professionals to get questions answered and make sure their rights are protected.
