Divorce can impact physical and psychological health

Divorce is an emotional rollercoaster ride. Those going through a divorce have to deal with all that a divorce proceeding entails, and this includes, but is not limited to, handling prenuptial agreements, fighting for child custody, making visitation plans, as well as dealing with property division, spousal support, alimony and child support issues. Divorce is an emotional time and can have detrimental physical and psychological side effects.

A recent study showed that men of divorce may be psychologically impacted more so than woman after a separation or divorce. The study explained how divorce affects men's physical well-being and that it can also play a role in their mental well-being. According to the study, divorced men have higher mortality rates than married men. Some of the causes of premature death in married men are stroke, hypertension and heart disease. That is not to say that all divorced men will have health problems post-divorce. However, the study does note that divorce has just as much of an impact, if not more so, on men as it does on women.

Because divorce signifies the end of an important relationship, it is not hard to believe that there is a physical toll that accompanies divorce. The decisions that have to be made in divorce proceedings are important and very personal decisions. These decisions can have a lasting impact on all of those involved, including children. When the courts are involved in divorces, they take into consideration all of the factors before them and look to mitigate negative effects and outcomes where possible.

Divorce is difficult to go through for sure, but it is not an impossible situation to handle. Knowing your rights and responsibilities in divorce will go a long way in making this time in one's life a little easier.
