Divorce and emotions go hand-in-hand

Going through a divorce is not an easy thing to do. If one is lucky, the divorce will be amicable and civil, and those who are a party to the divorce will leave the situation anger-free. However, this may not be the case for some couples in Michigan who find that they are filled with emotions that are mostly negative in nature, thus leading towards a break-up that is unfriendly and uncivilized. Parties to a divorce proceeding most likely do not intentionally set out to make the divorce proceedings difficult, it sometimes is just the nature of the beast.

Terrell Owens, a former National Football League star, is finding out firsthand how emotional a divorce can be. Owens was only married to his wife for three days before filing for divorce. Even though they were only married for three days, the woman is seeking that Owens pay for her legal bills, and she is claiming that there are community property matters that have to be resolved. Additionally, the woman claimed that she was in a relationship with Owens for five years prior to their getting married and that she grew accustomed to a certain way of life that should be maintained. All of these matters are ultimately for a court to decide.

Staying emotionally level is important when going through a divorce. This, of course, is easier said than done because of what is at stake when divorcing. It signifies the ending of a relationship that both parties entered into thinking it would last forever. Not only are emotions a part of divorce, but having to deal with dividing up property, child support and child custody issues also place a certain amount of stress on the situation.

That being said, being knowledgeable about the legalities of a divorce can go a long way to helping one balance their emotions. Although the courts may consider a party's feelings in divorce proceedings, court decisions in a divorce are always based on state statutes and laws.
