10-year-old dies in tragic motor vehicle crash

A 10-year-old boy died in a car crash that happened last Thursday in Muskegon County. The sport utility vehicle involved in the crash was being driven by a 14-year-old boy, who survived the incident.

The crash happened at approximately 8:40 p.m. The 14-year-old, who was illegally driving the vehicle, lost control of it on a rural roadway, slammed into a tree and caused considerable damage to the vehicle. The collision also injured the 14-year-old and killed the 10-year-old.

The teenager survived the accident, but he did suffer serious injuries. He was rushed to Mercy Health for medical treatment after the crash. Unfortunately, the 10-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the crash site.

The underage driver is enrolled at Coopersville Middle School in the eighth grade. The deceased 10-year-old was a home-school student.

Police have not yet released the identity of the 14-year-old boy, because they plan to charge him criminally relating to the incident. According to the teenager's step-father, the boy drove away with the vehicle without first obtaining permission.

Now, the 10-year-old's family is left to deal with this tragic loss and come to terms with the fact that they will never see their little boy again. Although a legal case could never do anything to right this unjust scenario, family members of the boy who died may wish to pursue a wrongful death claim in court against the negligent driver. If successfully navigated, such a claim could be very helpful to the boy's family because help them recover some of the end of life expenses they will forced to pay. They may also be able to receive money to compensate them for the emotional pain and suffering they are experiencing because of the loss.
