Michigan turning to data analytics for assessing child support policies

When it comes to child support matters, there are many changes that can be very impactful. One are changes in the financial circumstances of the two parents. Such changes can raise questions about the continued appropriateness of the previously established child support arrangement.

Another type of change that can have big ramifications are changes in the state’s policies and programs related to child support. Such changes can impact what sorts of options are available for both paying parents and recipient parents.

Understanding what their legal situation is in the midst of child-support-connected changes can be very important for a parent, whether they are receiving child support or paying it. Skilled child support attorneys can provide parents with explanations of the potential implications of a given change and guidance on how to respond to the change.

Given how big of ramifications a state’s child support policies/programs can have, how a state gauges whether new policies or programs it is trying out are effective can matter considerably. Recently, Michigan has been turning to data analytics for such evaluations.

The state has been using such analytics to help with assessing the impacts of some of the new child support programs it is testing out, such as programs related to: addressing paternity matters early, child support enforcement and child support debt forgiveness.

It will be interesting to see how the data analytics evaluation process goes in regards to these programs. One wonders how big of a role data analytics will come to play in child support policy decisions in state in the future and what overall impacts this will have when it comes to child support.
