Divorce is highly emotional and can be combative, depending on the relationship between the parties. With that being said, it is very difficult to believe that a couple who gets divorced can become friends after everything is said and done; however, it does happen. Dealing with issues like child custody, child support, spousal support, prenuptial agreements and alimony are all very difficult matters to handle in the wake of a divorce. If these issues and others that have to be decided during a divorce proceeding can be done amicably, then there is a chance that a friendship can result at the end of the day.
For instance, one famous ex-married couple, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, is one of the few examples of a divorced couple who gets along fairly well since they split. Both have said that the way that they have been able to keep it comfortable is to keep things easy and to remain civil for their kids. When children are a part of the equation, oftentimes, couples will remain in a good place with one another for the benefit of the children, which is not a bad thing.
Knowing how to appropriately handle matters of divorce is a hard thing to do. Sometimes, the emotions of the situation can take over, which may influence how a divorce proceeds in the courts and outside the courts, as well. Although courts may be in tune with the emotions surrounding a divorce, the courts tend to look at the facts of the matter in making final findings on divorce issues. With respect to child custody, although the courts may be empathetic to the parties involved in the matter, the court will still use the best interest of the child standard in rendering any decision dealing with child custody.
It is highly possible to end a marriage on a friendly note, but doing so is likely to take some time.
